Here's a look at some of the key issues the leading California universities lobbied for in 2025."

The Trump administration sought major changes to higher education, including efforts to remove diversity, equity and inclusion programs, prohibit transgender athletes from female sports, stifle pro-Palestine student protests and slash research funding. University of California spent nearly $2 million on lobbying during the first two quarters of 2025, close to its full 2024 lobbying total. Stanford spent $330,000 in the first half of 2025. California State University reduced its lobbying spending compared with 2024. Nationally, institutions spent about $9 million in Q1 and more than $9.7 million in Q2 of 2025.
