The 69th Annual Service Recognition Event at Cornell honored nearly 400 staff for their long-standing service, including Lou Farino and Roger Kaplan, who celebrated 50 years. Farino’s career began as a receiving clerk and progressed to facilities manager, while Kaplan transitioned from accelerator operator to a research support specialist. Their stories exemplify dedication and personal growth at Cornell, with President Kotlikoff acknowledging the longstanding impact of staff contributions towards the university's mission, even through challenging periods.
"I never imagined I'd be at Cornell for 50 years, but the academic environment and focus on basic research kept me engaged," said Kaplan.
"All of you, for decades, have helped Cornell fulfill its mission and helped your colleagues, our faculty, and our students to do the same," Kotlikoff said.
Kaplan shared his journey at Cornell, "From walking past the accelerator building as a curious student to designing and maintaining its systems, my journey has been both unexpected and deeply rewarding."
Farino started working at Cornell as a receiving clerk, eventually concluding his career as a facilities manager, highlighting the path of growth within the university.
