Rising to the occasion: Building Care staff honored for excellence | Cornell Chronicle
"She was really happy. She seemed at ease then, because she wanted to go home,"
"I like to help people."
"He deserves that award 1 million percent,"
"Time and time again, you rise to the occasion,"
On a cold December night a staff member locked herself out of an office in the Humphreys Building with car keys, office keys and coat inaccessible. Custodian Dakota Roberts, working in the building basement, confirmed her employment with security and unlocked her office so she could go home. Roberts has worked in 12 campus buildings and was one of six Building Care employees recognized at a Dec. 10 Bartels Awards ceremony in Bartels Hall. Each award included a $1,400 honorarium. The awards, now in their 19th year, recognize daily cleaning, emergency response, and event services provided by the department.
