Matthews Arena opened as Boston Arena on April 16, 1910, and served as the original home of the Boston Bruins and hosted the first Celtics game, creating the parquet floor. The venue hosted presidents including both Roosevelts, William Howard Taft, Herbert Hoover, Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy, and honored aviators Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. Concerts featured artists such as Marvin Gay, the Supremes, Bob Dylan and Ludacris. Northeastern University now owns the 115-year-old arena, which will close after a Huskies-Beanpot game and be replaced by a multipurpose arena and recreation center on the same site.
