Asahi suffered a ransomware attack that shut down its Japanese distribution system and call centers, forcing the company to isolate affected systems. The company confirmed ransomware and said traces suggest a possible unauthorized data transfer, while withholding technical details to prevent further damage. Brewing operations continued, but orders moved to manual processing and only limited shipments resumed on Friday. Call centers are scheduled to partially restart the week of October 6. CEO Atsushi Katsuki apologized and said efforts are underway to restore systems and implement alternative measures. Retailers including Seven & i and FamilyMart reported shortages.
