'I don't think I did anything wrong' - No regrets for Del Toro and Carapaz after losing the Giro d'Italia to Simon Yates
Briefly

In the 2025 Giro d'Italia, Simon Yates triumphed in Rome as Richard Carapaz and Isaac del Toro faced defeat due to their tactical decisions. Del Toro won the best young riders' jersey, acknowledging Yates's victory while maintaining his choices were defensively sound against Carapaz’s strategy. Carapaz noted that they could have claimed victory together if they worked collaboratively. Despite finishing second, Del Toro expressed determination to return for the win in future editions, leaning on his positive experience during the race and team support throughout.
“I don’t think I did anything wrong,” Del Toro said in Rome. “Richard had to protect his second place and so marked me closely. He said I should have worked with him but if I'd worked with him, he would have attacked me and could have gained time on me.”
“I wanted to win but I can't honestly believe I've finished second. For sure I'll be back to try to win the Giro,” Del Toro confirmed.
“We could have been the strongest, but it was the most intelligent who won,” Carapaz stated, emphasizing tactical decision-making in the race.
Del Toro won the best young riders' white jersey and sportingly praised Yates on his victory during the early kilometre of the final stage.
