""He kind of aggravated it last week in Arizona playing the outfield," said Friedman. "He'll do whatever. But I think the best chance for us to keep him growing strong right now is limit the amount of movement in the outfield. And so at least for right now that's our thought and hopefully we get some days and keep going and it progressively gets better and better and kind of opens that up. But right now we're erring on the side of caution.""
"Edman is still going to be available for the Wild Card series, but has been dealing with a nagging ankle injury for a little while now and seems likely to be playing at second base for the foreseeable future. He was first placed on the injured list for ankle inflammation at the beginning of May which kept him out for around three weeks, including some time before landing on the IL. He then sprained his ankle towards the start of August which kept him sidelined for a little over a month."
"In the 67 games he has played since his activation in May, Edman is hitting just .213 with a .579 OPS. Edman's 30 games he played before the initial ankle complications saw him hit .252 with 24 RBIs and eight of his 13 total home runs this season. Edman, however, has a knack for turning things up in October. After hitting .237 in 37 games with the Dodgers last season, Edman had a postseason slashline of .328/.354/.508 with an .862 OPS on the road to the Dodgers' eighth World Series victory."
Tommy Edman aggravated his ankle while playing the outfield in Arizona; the Dodgers plan to limit his outfield movement and favor him at second base to preserve his condition. Edman will remain available for the Wild Card series despite recurring ankle issues that previously landed him on the injured list for inflammation in May and a sprain in early August. Since returning in May, he has struggled offensively with a .213 average and .579 OPS, compared with stronger pre-injury numbers. Edman has performed well in past Octobers, producing a .862 postseason OPS during the Dodgers' recent championship run.
