Freddie Freeman has been named a finalist for the 2025 Lou Gehrig Award, honoring players who embody the spirit of the legendary New York Yankees first baseman. The award focuses on players' commitments to community and philanthropy, with each year's recipients recognized permanently at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Alongside Freeman, other finalists include MLB stars such as Bobby Witt Jr. and Gerrit Cole. As part of the award's initiative, Freeman and the Dodgers presented a custom wheelchair to Jason Ramirez, an ALS patient.
As part of being a finalist for the Lou Gehrig Memorial award, the selected player and their respective team has an opportunity to surprise an individual who is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with a custom Permobil wheelchair.
Ramirez was recognized during an on-field ceremony before the Dodgers' home game on June 2, which was celebrated as Lou Gehrig Day throughout MLB.
