Conservative Christians freak out over "the elf word" in a cute Christmas ad - LGBTQ Nation
""It is unnecessary to hint at profanity in any commercial, especially the f-word in a Christmas ad," OMM wrote in its latest petition. "It is extremely irresponsible because everyone knows children repeat what they hear." "Supporters have submitted many complaints about the use of insinuated profanity," OMM added. "It is extremely disrespectful to families. Kohl's needs to be held accountable!""
"OMM is a project of the anti-LGBTQ+ American Family Association (AFA), a Christian nationalist organization that actively opposes increased social acceptance of queer people. It considers LGBTQ+ identities to be unnatural, sinful, and harmful to society. OMM is not an organization with a membership that can be counted, and its petitions never get anywhere near one million signatures."
Kohl's aired a Christmas-themed ad starring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ellie Kemper as "Kohl's Mom." In the ad, Giannis says he "might have used 'the elf word'" after injuring his thumb while attempting to build a dollhouse, and Kemper jokes that Santa will be mad while promoting toys and gifts. One Million Moms launched a petition calling the insinuated f-word unnecessary, irresponsible, and disrespectful to families and urged followers to boycott Kohl's until the ads are canceled. One Million Moms is identified as a project of the American Family Association, described as a Christian nationalist, anti-LGBTQ+ organization. The petition history notes OMM petitions rarely approach one million signatures.
