"I don't like big girls on my pool tables."
"I don't know if they assumed because I was Black, I was also not a lesbian,"
"I think the owner might have interpreted the same way."
Kaila Adia Story encountered overt racism in a Louisville gay bar when a white person used the N-word and the owner insulted her presence. The owner entered with two large dogs and told Story that he did not want her on his pool tables, then used racial slurs against one of her friends. Story organized protests targeting the bar and faced backlash and hate mail from white queer patrons who defended the space. The Rainbow Ain't Never Been Enough challenges the idea of a unified LGBTQ+ community and highlights how queer spaces can reproduce racism and transphobia, calling for accountability and intersectional solidarity.
