""Leonard Lacayo has demonstrated zero regard for the law or the immigrant communities he claims to serve,""
""For years, he has targeted vulnerable immigrants, taking their money while putting them in legal jeopardy. His actions are particularly egregious during a time of mass deportations and heightened fear in our immigrant communities.""
"false legal advice can lead to "devastating" consequences for immigrants. It leaves them vulnerable to deportation as well as civil or legal penalties if they file the wrong documents."
San Francisco Superior Court ordered more than $600,000 in civil penalties and attorney's fees against immigration consultant Leonard Lacayo for offering legal services without a license. Lacayo and associates allegedly posed as immigration lawyers at a Mission District office and charged immigrants thousands for fraudulent legal advice. The city attorney obtained an injunction in 2017 and filed a motion five years later to enforce it after Lacayo continued operations. The court extended the injunction for another five years. City Attorney David Chiu condemned Lacayo's conduct. False legal advice can expose immigrants to deportation and other penalties.
