After delays, new trains finally arrive on the DLR
""the latest technology""
""modern, high-capacity trains designed to meet the needs of a growing city""
""The new DLR trains will significantly improve reliability and support growth in new homes and jobs, particularly for Londoners in areas like Stratford, Woolwich Arsenal and the Isle of Dogs. "I'm committed to modernising infrastructure on London's transport network, which is vital for faster, greener and safer journeys that are accessible for all.""
The first of 54 new Docklands Light Railway trains has entered service, featuring air conditioning, mobile device charging points and dedicated wheelchair spaces. The new units replace some trains that have operated for more than three decades and are described as modern, high-capacity trains with walk-through carriages and 10% more capacity than current trains. All 54 trains are expected on the network by the end of 2026, increasing DLR capacity by over 50% and allowing restoration of the full timetable. Proposals are also under consultation for a DLR extension from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside with two new stations.
