London Northwestern Railway has announced the launch of a new fleet of trains with 20% more seating capacity, aimed at alleviating congestion for commuters on the West Coast Main Line. This is part of a larger £1 billion fleet upgrade, set to introduce 36 new five-carriage trains over the next 18 months. The upgrade will notably impact routes to Tring, Watford Junction, and Milton Keynes, adding approximately 15,000 seats per day when all units are operational. The new trains, designed by Alstom, come as a response to the heavy passenger demand on the network.
The introduction of the new fleet by London Northwestern Railway is set to add about 15,000 seats daily on the West Coast Main Line, greatly enhancing commuter capacity.
According to Ian McConnell, managing director, the current fleet upgrade is crucial for accommodating the busy routes, particularly those serving major stations like Euston.
