The Bakerloo line operates the UK's oldest trains, which are over 53 years old and near the end of their design life. Transport for London (TfL) is looking to replace its fleet of 36 trains with modern, walk-through, air-conditioned carriages and seeks £1.8 billion in government funding for this upgrade. New trains would improve service frequency, allowing trains to operate every 2.5 minutes during peak hours, up from every 3 minutes. Furthermore, there is also a proposal to extend the Bakerloo line to Lewisham to better serve the community and support housing developments.
