Birmingham bin dispute could run until December after vote for more strikes
Briefly

In Birmingham, nearly 400 bin workers, represented by the Unite union, have voted by 97% to extend their strike amid disputes over pay and job cuts. The strike, which began in January and escalated in March, has led to severe waste management issues, with uncollected rubbish accumulating in the streets and an increase in pests. Despite a recent proposal from the city council, Unite deemed it insufficient, claiming it was late and misaligned with previous discussions. Tensions continue to rise as the city seeks court intervention to unblock waste vehicles.
Unite will not allow these workers to be financially ruined. The strikes will continue for as long as it takes.
After smearing these workers in public since January and telling them to accept a fair and reasonable offer that never existed.
The councils proposal came weeks late and was not in line with what was discussed during Acas talks in May.
The recent court order against the picket lines shows the continuing deterioration of relations between the striking workers and the city council.
