A herd of topiary elephants in Finsbury Park, created by artist Tim Bushe, is facing destruction due to an invasive fungal disease known as honey fungus. Of the four elephants, two have already been severely affected. Bushe is actively documenting on Instagram his efforts to save the remaining elephants, initially taking action after confirming the disease's impact. Local supporter David Winskill expressed sorrow about the situation, emphasizing the elephantsâ role as a beloved landmark in the community. The situation highlights the vulnerability of public art to environmental threats.
Disaster! Honey Fungus has taken out elephant number three. We are going to take the dead section out and replant with another species hoping we can save it.
This is such a great pity. Finsbury Park's little herd of elephants has been a landmark and raising smiles for years.
