In the ongoing investigation into the missing and presumed murdered Yajaira Castro Mendez, police have confirmed the discovery of human remains 40 miles outside London. The 46-year-old Colombian woman was reported missing after leaving her Ilford home, prompting extensive search efforts. A suspect, Juan Toledo, 51, has been arrested and charged with her murder. Investigators are appealing for information as they continue to explore the circumstances surrounding this tragic case, while Yajaira's family is being supported during this difficult time.
Detective Inspector Jay Gregory, leading the homicide probe, said: 'This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.'
Scotland Yard said Toledo, who was arrested on Tuesday, is known to Ms Castro Mendez.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said: 'Yajaira's disappearance was initially treated as a missing person investigation led by local officers. The investigation was then transferred to the Met's Specialist Crime Command...'
A force spokesman said: 'While we await formal identification, Yajaira's family have been informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers.'
