Is Roki Sasaki the new Dodgers closer? Dave Roberts trusts rookie
"I trust him, and he's going to be pitching in leverage. So the more you pitch guys and play guys, you learn more. So, like I said about Yamamoto, I don't think the moment's going to be too big for Roki."
"He looks like a different person. It's an inning or two, I think there's just a lot more confidence, a lot more conviction, and obviously the stuff is up from where it was earlier."
Roki Sasaki entered the ninth inning of Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series with an 8-4 Dodgers lead and retired the side on 11 pitches, recording two strikeouts and touching a season-best 101.4 mph on his fastball. The 21-year-old's outing followed bullpen struggles in the eighth and secured the Dodgers' advance to the Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Sasaki missed most of his rookie season with a right shoulder impingement, used the recovery to build strength and refine mechanics, and returned in late September with improved velocity and command. The Dodgers placed him in the postseason bullpen for high-leverage situations despite a long-term starter outlook.
