Viktor Gyokeres recently transferred from Sporting to Arsenal for up to 64m. He scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting and averaged more than a goal per game last season. Rio Ferdinand expressed skepticism about Gyokeres' fit for Premier League, questioning his ability to convert opportunities at the top level. Bjorn Hamberg, Gyokeres' former assistant coach, stated that he possesses the required physicality. Gyokeres has made a remarkable progress from Brighton to becoming a top scorer in Europe's leagues after loan spells in the Championship and Germany.
"I don't think he's the guy," Rio Ferdinand says of Viktor Gyokeres. "I've watched him probably three times really, really closely. And three times I've gone: 'He ain't getting that opportunity in the Prem.'"
Gyokeres has scored a phenomenal 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese club, and contributed 26 assists. He averaged more than a goal per game last season, with 54 in 52 appearances.
