The article explores how advancements in technology have rendered some jobs obsolete over the years. Engaging older adults from the BuzzFeed Community, it highlights personal accounts of former jobs that no longer exist or have been replaced by automation, such as closed captioning for live TV and letter sorting machine operations. Contributors recall their experiences, noting the shift in job dynamics and the advent of AI, which while efficient, still lacks the nuanced understanding of human language nuances.
Thanks to a number of factors (namely, technology), jobs have changed and evolved over the years - to the point where some jobs have become entirely obsolete.
AI does great, but I don't think it knows well enough (or quickly enough) the difference between 'to, too, and two' or 'there, their, and they're,' etc.
I was a Letter Sorting Machine Operator. The machines were broken down and scrapped for high-speed electronic sorters.
RIP Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, which I still think about to this day.
