PDX: Suck It, Sinclair-Now!
"Seattle is ahead of us! Indivisible there has weekly protests re Sinclair's refusal to air Jimmy Kimmel in that market (www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/850025/). Portland, with KATU as another ABC Sinclair station, hasn't reacted similarly. Let's write, phone, or even protest now (see https://katu.com/station/contact)! Then check out recent Kimmel youtube episodes to up online viewership and consider subscribing too to show support (& I did the same for Colbert)."
"The Mercury's sister paper, the Stranger, reports that ad dollars are leaving Seattle's ABC station (www.stranger.com, "Katie Wilson Boycotts KOMO...") To paraphrase Niemoller's poem for our times: "First they came for the federal workers...then they came for the immigrants...and then they came for late night talk show hosts." Who will be the next target? Niemoller's poem of remorse over what he didn't do during the Nazi era asks us to speak out early in such a chain of repression."
Indivisible in Seattle holds weekly protests over Sinclair's refusal to air Jimmy Kimmel, while Portland's KATU, another Sinclair-owned ABC station, has not mounted a similar response. The message urges Portlanders to write, phone, or protest KATU now and to watch recent Kimmel YouTube episodes and consider subscribing to increase online viewership and show support. The Stranger reports that advertisers are pulling ad dollars from Seattle's ABC station. A paraphrase of Niemoller's poem warns that silence permits escalating repression and calls for speaking out early to prevent a widening chain of targeting.
