""found unambiguous diagnostic evidence""
""The findings correspond with the classification of low-stage CTE, according to current consensus criteria," the statement reads."
""There is no justification for the horrific and senseless acts that took place," the sports league wrote. "As the medical examiner notes, 'the science around this condition continues to evolve, and the physical and mental manifestations of CTE remain under study.'""
A medical examiner found chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in Shane Tamura's brain, with unambiguous diagnostic evidence corresponding to low-stage CTE under current consensus criteria. Tamura shot and killed four people and then died by suicide inside the Manhattan building that houses the NFL headquarters. He left a note blaming the NFL for hiding CTE’s effects, asked for his brain to be studied, and intentionally shot himself in the chest rather than the head. Tamura appears to have targeted the wrong office and injured one NFL employee. Studies report high CTE prevalence in deceased NFL players and link CTE to depression, cognitive impairment, and suicidal thoughts. The NFL said the acts were unjustifiable and that science around CTE continues to evolve.
