Menachem Rosensaft seeks to make his reworked Biblical Psalms resonate deeply with Cornell students, drawing from his family's harrowing Holocaust experiences. His latest work, "Burning Psalms: Confronting Adonai after Auschwitz," aims to provide a spiritual and emotional outlet for readers, particularly students, to explore their relationship with God. Rosensaft emphasizes that these psalms, reflecting the voices of concentration camp prisoners, confront despair while also encouraging hope and spiritual reflection. A poetry reading and discussion will offer Cornell's community a chance to engage with these poignant themes on April 21.
Rosensaft's goal is for his poems to become tools for spiritual navigation, encouraging students to engage with the Psalms in meaningful ways throughout their lives.
The Psalms provide emotional and spiritual outlets, allowing readers to confront their feelings toward God in a deeply personal way, beyond intellectual engagement.
