Standard definitions of psychotherapy are outdated and vulnerable to imitation by AI technologies. With advancements in AI chatbots, there is a blurring line between traditional therapy and CAI-based therapy, prompting concerns among professionals. While experts agree that these AI tools are not true therapists, the definitions widely used may inadvertently allow for simulation. The call is for a new overarching definition that addresses the essential qualities that AI lacks, providing a clear distinction from human-based psychotherapy.
