Medical staff evaluated him at intake, and he denied behavioral health issues and answered negatively to suicide screening questions. At least 10 other people have died in ICE custody this year. A 2024 report documented troubling conditions at the facility, including toxic antimicrobial spray exposure, carbon monoxide leaks, and pepper-spraying as punishment.
