Following the tragic death of 15-year-old Ella Adler, who was struck by a boat while wakeboarding off South Florida, misdemeanor charges have been filed against two boat operators. Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 79, and Edmund Richard Hartley, 31, were charged with violating U.S. Coast Guard navigational rules. The incident, which occurred in May 2024, involved Adler and another girl who fell while wakeboarding. Before Hartley's boat could return, Adler was struck by another, later identified as a Boston whaler owned by Alonso. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
