Bruins notebook: Lineup is coming into focus
"The top line of Morgan Geekie, Elias Lindholm and Pastrnak remained the same, as did the fourth line of Mikey Eyssimont, Sean Kuraly and Mark Kastelic. The middle six was jumbled, with Pavel Zacha moving back to center between Viktor Arvidsson and Matej Blumel while Casey Mittelstadt dropped down to a third line with Tanner Jeannot and Matt Poitras, getting his first look of the preseason at wing. There was also a fifth line of Fraser Minten centering Alex Steeves and Marat Khusnutdinov."
"On the back end, the top three pairs - Mason Lohrei-Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm-Andrew Peeke, Nikita Zadorov-Henri Jokiharju - remained intact while there was a fourth pair of Victor Soderstrom and Jordan Harris. Of the notable players moved to the AHL-heavy second session - run by Providence coach Ryan Mougenel - were Fabian Lysell and John Beecher, first round picks in 2021 and 2019, respectively"
"Coach Marco Sturm stressed that some players could still switch groups but that it was good to get close to the lineup he plans on putting on the ice for the opener on October 8 in Washington. "I think every head coach will say the same thing. As a coach, you want it to go as fast as possible with the group you'll have during the season," said Sturm."
The first practice grouped presumptive NHL players together while a second session featured AHL-focused skaters. The top line of Morgan Geekie, Elias Lindholm and Pastrnak and the fourth line of Mikey Eyssimont, Sean Kuraly and Mark Kastelic remained intact. The middle six shifted, with Pavel Zacha centering Viktor Arvidsson and Matej Blumel, while Casey Mittelstadt moved to wing on a third line with Tanner Jeannot and Matt Poitras. A fifth line featured Fraser Minten between Alex Steeves and Marat Khusnutdinov. Defensive pairs stayed similar, and Fabian Lysell and John Beecher skated in the AHL session. Coach Marco Sturm said coaches want to finalize groups quickly ahead of the opener while center roles and waiver-exempt spots remain uncertain.
