"This is part of the development we have recently observed with other drone attacks, airspace violations, and cyberattacks targeting European airports,"
"Someone may not necessarily want to attack us, but rather stress us out and see how we react,"
"The number, size, flight patterns, time over the airport. All this together ... indicates that it is a capable actor. Which capable actor, I do not know,"
Unidentified drones entered Copenhagen and Oslo airspace early Tuesday, prompting temporary airport closures and dozens of diverted or cancelled flights that disrupted thousands of passengers. Danish authorities reported several large drones over Copenhagen for more than three hours and dispatched a heavy police presence to investigate. Danish intelligence assessed a "high threat of sabotage" and warned the activity could be intended to provoke or test responses rather than cause direct harm. Officials noted the scale and patterns of the flights indicate a capable actor, while governments in the region pointed to similar incidents and raised concerns about possible foreign fingerprints.
