Gardai hope US facial recognition sketch will help identify rail line body
"The new appeal is accompanied by a special sketch by a US forensic facial reconstruction artist now central to their new campaign. The woman's skeleton was discovered on January 5, 2021 by workmen clearing sections of the old Midleton-Youghal railway line as part of a greenway development. One theory being examined by detectives is that the woman may have been illegally exhumed from a grave - and then deliberately dumped by the rail line where she lay undiscovered for years."
"Gardaí have also released a comprehensive outline of the material found with the body. It includes that the woman was 70 plus years old at the time of death; was 5' to 5' 2" in height; was large framed; wore dentures believed to have been made in around the 1960s; suffered from arthritis; wore a slip, tights, nightdress and wore size 2 brown leather shoes."
The skeleton of an elderly woman was found on January 5, 2021 by workmen clearing the old Midleton-Youghal railway line for a greenway. Investigators consider a theory that the woman may have been illegally exhumed from a grave and deliberately dumped by the rail line. A forensic facial reconstruction specialist, Dr. Michelle Vitali of Penn West University, produced illustrations to aid identification. The woman was assessed as 70-plus years old, 5' to 5'2" tall, large framed, suffered from arthritis, and wore dentures likely made around the 1960s. DNA comparisons to the National DNA Database produced no match, and An Garda Síochána is liaising with Interpol while examining missing persons records.
