"It is currently believed that the suspect, Jihad Al Shamie, was not in possession of a firearm and the only shots fired were from GMP's Authorised Firearms Officer,"
"It follows therefore, that subject to further forensic examination, this injury may sadly have been sustained as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgently required action taken by my officers to bring this vicious attack to an end."
A 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, Jihad Al-Shamie, drove into a group outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and stabbed a man. Police were alerted and shot the attacker dead seven minutes later. One victim was reportedly shot by police during attempts to bring the unarmed attacker under control; Greater Manchester Police say the only shots fired were by an authorised firearms officer and that any such injury may be a tragic unforeseen consequence of urgent action. Two men, Adrian Daulby (53) and Melvin Cravitz (66), were killed. Three others remain in hospital with serious injuries and three people have been arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack.
