"My contract runs out in '28. We're in talks at the moment about extending that. In '28 I'll be 67. I can't see any reason not to do another three to five-year period of time but, to my mind, I suspect we're coming to the end of it at that stage."
"Taking me out at some point in the next five to 10 years would give Ryanair the opportunity to be a little bit softer and a little bit nicer,"
"Ryanair would be better off if they didn't have someone who was always shouting and swearing and actively lighting fires."
Michael O'Leary, 64, is negotiating a contract extension to remain Ryanair CEO beyond its 2028 expiry, considering an additional three-to-five-year term. He expects to exit the role within five to ten years and does not want to remain CEO into his 90s. He suggested his departure would allow Ryanair to become softer and nicer, contrasting with his own abrasive style of shouting, swearing and "actively lighting fires". He has publicly criticised EU regulations and UK tax policy and has been credited with transforming budget air travel in Europe while keeping Ryanair’s costs low. He acknowledged succession risk but said the senior team could 'mind the bus.'
