This mighty London transport hub is officially the most connected airport in the world
"When push comes to shove, only one thing really matters about an airport: how many places it gives you access to. It might be helpful to know how many coffee shops it has, or how quick security queues are, but ultimately none of that matters if you can't get where you need to go. Luckily, the world's best connected airport is right here in the UK, according to the latest research from aviation stats company OAG."
"OAG's Megahubs 2025 report just revealed that London Heathrow is the most connected airport in the world. The annual study looks at 100 of the planet's biggest airports and ranks them based on the total number of scheduled seats over a 12 month period. This includes inbound, outbound, and connecting flights, and the goal is to provide 'essential insights on how flight connectivity changes, develops and grows across the world's largest airports'."
"An OAG analyst explained that the airport's 'sustained dominance reflects its vital role in global travel'. On its busiest day between September 2024 and August 2025, 59,240 passengers made connections at Heathrow. It also offered travellers an impressive 226 destinations across 80 countries to choose from. LHR's connections have gone down by a third since the study launched in 2015, but the total destinations offered have risen by nearly 25 percent."
London Heathrow retained its position as the world's most connected airport in OAG's Megahubs 2025 ranking. The ranking measures total scheduled seats over 12 months, including inbound, outbound and connecting flights. Heathrow offered 226 destinations across 80 countries and handled 59,240 connecting passengers on its busiest day between September 2024 and August 2025. Connections at LHR have fallen by about one-third since 2015 while destinations served have increased by nearly 25 percent. Heathrow was the only UK airport in the top ten; Amsterdam Schiphol placed third, Frankfurt was joint fourth, and Paris Charles de Gaulle ranked tenth.
