After an 11-year retirement, Alexandre Franca Nogueira, known as "King of the Guillotine," is set to make his comeback on Saturday in Japan, where he will face fellow veteran Hatsu Hioki. Nogueira embraced the chance to fight under special rules reminiscent of his earlier career in Japan. With a focus on his renowned guillotine technique, he trained specifically for this bout and expressed excitement about the energy of the Japanese crowd. Highly regarded in Brazil as a premier Luta-Livre figure, Nogueira aims to honor his legacy in this unique match.
"The best moments of my career were in Japan. When the Japanese promoter invited me to fight there against another veteran, I immediately accepted."
"One round of 15 minutes, with gi in Pride rules and the weigh-ins 20 minutes before each fight. I loved that," said Nogueira.
"Since I also graduated as a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I was able to train with some top black belts here in Rio."
"I just can't wait to feel the energy of the Japanese crowd and try to give them my best performance," said Nogueira.
