If this turns out to be true, it would be a major upgrade for the entry-level iPad. Notably, the current 11th-gen iPad is equipped with the older A16 chip from the iPhone 14."
"Details about Apple's 2026 iPad lineup have surfaced online. According to a new report, Apple may soon launch a new entry-level iPad with the latest A series chip and an M4-equipped iPad Air. The folks over at MacWorld reportedly got their hands on an internal Apple code document for a pre-release build of iOS 26. The document revealed details about upcoming 2026 iPad models."
An entry-level iPad, codenamed J581 and J582, will use the A19 chip found in iPhone 17, replacing the current A16. It will include the N1 wireless chip introduced with iPhone 17 and otherwise retain features of the current 11th-gen iPad. A new iPad Air, codenamed J707/J708/J737/J738, will use the M4 SoC and Apple's N1 chipset while keeping design and display similar to the iPad Air 2025. The iPad 12 with A19 and the M4-powered iPad Air are expected to be unveiled early next year, with exact timing unknown.
