A never-ending proclamation of hope: Choral Arts Ensemble, Oregon Repertory Singers and Cappella Romana * Oregon ArtsWatch
"Chorale Arts Ensemble is about to launch a wonderful season of choral music. In December they collaborate with Orchestra Nova Northwest in their Yuletide performances of Elaine Hagenberg's Illuminare, published in 2022, and Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver for a soaring choral experience. In late February you will hear CAE in concert with Pacific Youth Choir and in April you can hear Eric Whitacre's The Sacred Veil, a story of life, love and loss."
"Assistant Artistic Director Megan Elliott sent De Lyser an email with a link to a new arrangement of Verdi's Requiem asking ''what about this?" "It took about 30 seconds of listening to realize this had really excellent possibilities," continued De Lyser. "Then came the research - what forces are needed, is it actually for sale or rent, how new is it, has it been done in the Pacific Northwest, etc. And that's when we realized we had something special on our hands."
Choral Arts Ensemble will open a season of choral music with programs spanning Yuletide collaborations and major choral works. December features Elaine Hagenberg's Illuminare (2022) and Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver with Orchestra Nova Northwest. Late February brings a concert with Pacific Youth Choir, and April presents Eric Whitacre's The Sacred Veil, a narrative of life, love, and loss. The October 11–12 concerts will present a full Verdi Requiem reimagined for intimacy and transparency. Assistant Artistic Director Megan Elliott located a new arrangement, and subsequent research confirmed strong artistic possibilities and considerations of forces, availability, and regional performance history. The arrangement was composed by Richard Blackford for The Bach Choir, London in 2020.
