Classic REO Speedwagon Members Reunite for First Time Since 1988 at Illinois Halftime Show
"Hi, everybody. I'm Kevin,"
"On behalf of Alan, Neil, Bruce, and the entire REO Speedwagon family, I want to thank the people of Illinois, the city of Champaign-Urbana, and this great university for providing a springboard for our music that launched us on a mind-blowing musical experience. Thanks, you guys."
"irreconcilable differences"
Four surviving members of REO Speedwagon's classic 1977–1988 lineup—singer Kevin Cronin, keyboardist Neal Doughty, bassist Bruce Hall, and drummer Alan Gratzer—performed together for the first time since Gratzer's 1988 retirement during the University of Illinois homecoming halftime in Champaign. The group was joined by the 400-piece Marching Illini and played a medley including "Ridin' the Storm Out," "Roll with the Changes," and "157 Riverside Avenue." Doughty and Gratzer formed the band while students at the University of Illinois. The quartet also served as Grand Marshals in the homecoming parade. The reunion followed prior tensions within the band, including a separation tied to "irreconcilable differences."
