Zubeen Garg, aged 52, died by drowning in Singapore on September 19 while due to perform there. Assam declared four days of mourning and tens of thousands of mourners filled the streets to pay their respects. Garg was cremated in Guwahati with full state honours and a 21-gun salute after a second post-mortem ruled out foul play. Large crowds sang his popular songs. Garg primarily sang in Assamese and regional dialects and also acted in Assamese cinema, receiving multiple awards. Political leaders issued condolences. He is survived by his wife, Garima Saikia Garg.
