Exclusive | Special Mother's Day gift for the ages: 'Always going to be with you'
Briefly

This article explores the trend of moms and their adult children celebrating Mother's Day with matching tattoos instead of conventional gifts. Tattoo parlors across New York City offered special deals for this occasion, reflecting a growing acceptance of tattoos. Artists emphasized that tattoos provide lasting memories, highlighting the bonding experience it creates. As societal perceptions of tattoos have shifted, more mothers are seeking this unique way to celebrate their relationship with their children. Additionally, tattoo shops are adapting to economic pressures with competitive pricing to attract customers.
“You could [buy] flowers ... but this is something that's going to last,” said Adam Korothy, a senior tattoo artist at Live By The Sword in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“It's also having the memory of the experience,” said Korothy, who boasts his own 'Mom' heart tattoo.
“A lot more moms are not only getting tattooed [now], but they've been tattooed before they had kids,” the artist said.
“Promotions are a part of getting ahead,” acknowledged Korothy as tattoo shops navigate recession fears.
