On Sunday evening, a homeowner in East Shoreham, Long Island, uncovered a body under a pool cover while preparing for summer. The body is suspected to belong to fugitive murder suspect Matthew Zoll, wanted for allegedly killing his father in November. Suffolk County police are investigating the scene and conducting an autopsy to confirm the identity and cause of death. Zoll, who suffers from schizophrenia, fled after the murder and evaded authorities during a manhunt, raising questions about his circumstances leading to this discovery.
Sources claim cops now believe Zoll may have traveled about a half-a-mile to the backyard, where he could've tried hiding underneath the winter pool cover before dying of various causes including drowning, hypothermia, suffocation, and more.
Officials wouldn't confirm whether this is their leading theory, but said the Homicide Squad is actively investigating and that the Medical Examiner's office is performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death and confirm the victim's identity.
