Little guest': How a rescued baby brought two Gaza families together

In December 2023, Tareq Abu Jabal lost his wife to an Israeli airstrike while sheltering in a school in Jabalia, Gaza, and his 13-month-old son, Mohammed, went missing during the chaos. For over a year, Tareq searched for his son, while Rasem Nabhan, another survivor from the attack, discovered Mohammed amidst the devastation, having lost his own family. Rasem's heroic act of rescuing Mohammed led to their eventual reunion, offering a poignant glimpse into the harsh realities of war in Gaza and the bonds of humanity in crisis.
Rasem focused on getting his wife and seven children out of the school with the other women and children, then ran to help extinguish the flames still burning in the bombed classrooms.
Amid the carnage, he said, I saw a baby crying and screaming. Next to him lay the body of a woman – her head and stomach torn apart, her body covered in blood.
