Parents from Exposure Dance Studio in Staten Island achieved first place in the Journey Dance National Competition with their performance titled "It's a Shore Thing." This homage to early 2000s Staten Island and MTV's "Jersey Shore" featured energetic music and classic cheetah print, captivating the audience and judges. Studio owner Katie Rousiamanis emphasized the community spirit fostered through the performance. The bond between parents and children was strengthened through shared practice sessions, creating a familial atmosphere that extends beyond dance. Exposure Dance Studio marks its 20th season this year, celebrating its community-building efforts.
Our parents just got super into it. They were excited to get their costumes... Their kids were really practicing with them, and they came to our practices.
It builds stronger bonds with all the kids, because they were practicing, the kids were teaching them too. So it was very cute.
It was such a vibe... In the theater, we had schools from all over, that weren't even our own kids and parents, cheering us on.
Exposure Dance Studio feels like home. The teachers put their whole heart into everything.
