The hypersonic jet Quarterhorse MK 1 successfully completed its first flight over Edwards Air Force Base in California, signaling progress in ultra-fast aviation. Powered by a General Electric J85 engine, this uncrewed aircraft is designed to enable flights from London to New York in just 90 minutes. Hermeus, the company behind the Quarterhorse, emphasized the importance of iterative development, with plans for the next variant, MK 2, already underway, expected to fly by late 2025. Industry leaders acknowledged the role of partnerships in advancing innovative aviation technology.
