'It's not been an easy Tour' - Tadej Pogacar eyes Tour de France overall victory after conservative ride on final summit finish
Briefly

Tadej Pogačar completed the final major mountain stage of the Tour de France, maintaining control of the overall classification. Barring disasters, he is set to secure his fourth overall victory. During the stage, Pogačar led at a steady pace, with Jonas Vingegaard finishing just ahead in second. Vingegaard gained some time thanks to bonus seconds, but this had little long-term impact on the race. Pogačar acknowledged the importance of pacing and expressed satisfaction with his performance despite not making aggressive attacks against competitors.
"I was counting down the kilometres in the end. Arensman went super good, I was setting a pace I felt comfortable with and so that if somebody put in an attack, I could still accelerate."
"I am paid to win," was his comment in the Pyrenees. But on a day when he did not seem as exuberantly energetic on the climbs, Pogačar said he was walking a line between defending the jersey and trying to regain contact with Arensman.
