Commanders gamble on bold signing to fight through injury crisis
"It's no secret that the Washington Commanders are currently dealing with some injury turmoil. Dan Quinn is rolling with the punches, trying to ride the wave in pursuit of minimizing damage to the team's overall aspirations. Adam Peters is forming contingency plans as the hits continue to come. The Commanders are depleted at the receiver position entering Week 5. Noah Brown has been out for a while after a disrupted summer on the health front. To make matters worse, second-team All-Pro wideout Terry McLaurin is currently on the shelf with a quad injury."
"According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Commanders have reportedly signed Robbie Chosen to their practice squad. He's the artist formerly known as Robbie Anderson, for those not keeping track. Chosen looked to have a prolific career in the offing once upon a time. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the Carolina Panthers in 2020, earning a new contract for his efforts. It didn't take long for things to sour, which stemmed from his old college coach, Matt Rhule, being fired."
"The former Temple star and Carolina's interim head coach, Steve Wilks, clashed immediately. They almost came to blows on the sidelines versus the Los Angeles Rams, and the pass-catcher was traded to the Arizona Cardinals not even 24 hours later. He didn't last long in Arizona before moving to the Miami Dolphins. Chosen spent two seasons with the AFC East club but wasn't a massive feature in their passing attack. He was recently released from the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, and the pass-catcher now gets the opportunity to stake a claim in Washington."
The Washington Commanders face significant receiver injuries entering Week 5, with Noah Brown sidelined after a disrupted summer and Terry McLaurin dealing with a quad injury. Head coach Dan Quinn is adjusting personnel and strategy while general manager Adam Peters prepares contingency plans. The team signed Robbie Chosen to the practice squad to add depth and competition at the position. Chosen previously recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers, experienced coaching clashes that prompted trades, spent time with the Cardinals and Dolphins, and was recently released from the 49ers practice squad.
