"It was the best thing for the Dolphins. I think it's also the best thing for Cam,"
"It didn't play out the way you see it when you invest in a player like that,"
"He's doing well and starting the long road to recovery,"
"His consistency and play-making ability and ability to play with or without the ball, He played to a high standard here, and as we looked at all of his tape since, he hasn't lost a step, in our opinion."
The Miami Dolphins waived cornerback Cam Smith off the non-football illness list, a move described as best for both the team and Smith. Smith was a 2023 second-round pick who did not make the active roster by his third NFL season. The Dolphins declined to provide specifics about Smith's NFI designation and will not add him to the practice squad. Tyreek Hill underwent successful surgery for a dislocated left knee, will remain hospitalized as a precaution, and is out for the season. Jaylen Waddle remains the team's No. 1 receiver. Cedrick Wilson Jr. was added to replace Hill and will likely begin practicing next week after a brief delay.
