'It's been productive': Why Titans coach Brian Callahan gave up playcalling duties
"I've spent most of my time in special teams, in the defensive meetings and making sure I got a good pulse of what's happening there."
"I'm having more conversations with players, understanding some of the things that they think and feel. I've actually enjoyed stepping back and looking at some other things that maybe I didn't have the time and energy to put into it because of other responsibilities. It's been productive."
"He has a lot of great ideas, and he can be an extra voice and an extra set of eyes from an offensive perspective moving forward. So I think it's going to be a hell of a thing. I just love being around him, talking football."
The Tennessee Titans entered Week 4 winless after being outscored 94-51. Brian Callahan transferred playcalling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree to allow greater impact across offense, defense, and special teams. Callahan has increased involvement in special teams and defensive meetings and has expanded conversations with players to better understand their perspectives. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson welcomed Callahan's offensive ideas as an extra voice and set of eyes for defensive preparation. Callahan previously served as Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator from 2019-2023 and enjoyed building game plans and calling plays but chose to relinquish playcalling for broader responsibilities.
