"When you're torn between two similar players and simply don't know which one to start, start the player with the superior matchup. Ah, but exactly how does one determine the best (and worst) weekly matchups? Our matchup rankings provide a schedule-independent method to evaluate positional matchups each week, ranking all 32 opposing defenses in order of most to least favorable for opposing players at all skill positions (quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end)."
""Adj. FPA," or adjusted fantasy points allowed, reflects how far above or below players' weekly PPR fantasy point averages that defense held opponents at that position. A positive number means that the matchup is favorable; a negative number means it's unfavorable. Also, remember that teams often use multiple running backs and wide receivers in a game, and these plus/minus averages cover a team's personnel at that position. Finally, a caveat: Matchups are only one ingredient in my rankings' formula."
"This week isn't abundant with soft quarterback matchups. Four teams, including three of the 13 most favorable matchups, are on byes. Another two of those 13 most favorable matchups, the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, play on "Thursday Night Football" and therefore demand early lineup decisions. Another faces the No. 1 positional scorer, Josh Allen, an obvious weekly fantasy starter. Streaming quarterbacks this"
Use schedule-independent matchup rankings to evaluate weekly positional matchups by ranking all 32 opposing defenses from most to least favorable for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. Calibrate points-allowed data relative to opponents' schedule difficulty to produce fairer matchup assessments. Adjusted fantasy points allowed (Adj. FPA) measures how far above or below players' weekly PPR averages a defense held opponents at a given position; positive values indicate favorable matchups and negative values indicate unfavorable ones. Matchups reflect team personnel usage across running back and wide receiver roles. Matchup quality is one factor among others when making start/sit decisions.
