"Whatever team drafts me, I'm grateful, whether it's the No. 1 pick or whether it's, you know, 199th pick. One-hundred ninety-nine. That's famously Tom Brady's pick to the New England Patriots in the 2000 draft."
"I mean, who hasn't admired Tom Brady? Guy has more Super Bowl rings than anybody, anybody. That opportunity would be fantastic. Tom Brady, I believe, is the greatest quarterback of all time by a wide margin. And to be able to have the opportunity to be mentored by him, it would mean so much."
Fernando Mendoza, Indiana's quarterback and Miami native, is widely predicted to be selected first overall in the 2026 NFL draft. At the NFL scouting combine, Mendoza expressed gratitude for any opportunity, notably referencing the 199th pick—Tom Brady's draft position in 2000. Mendoza has long admired Brady, whom he considers the greatest quarterback of all time. A childhood photo showed Mendoza and his brother wearing Brady jerseys at a Dolphins-Patriots game. The Las Vegas Raiders, who hold the top pick and have Brady as a minority owner, are virtually all predictions' choice for Mendoza's destination. Mendoza expressed enthusiasm about the potential mentorship opportunity with Brady.
