"We're playing them again next week, so this is just round one of two, possibly three if we meet in the playoffs. This was probably the biggest crowd we've played in front of. You had fans on both sides cheering... it was exciting."
"Our double QB system keeps us both healthy and fresh,"
"Me and Ava have different techniques but we both know what to do."
JSerra defeated top-ranked Orange Lutheran 18-7, ending the Lancers' 23-game winning streak and improving to 20-0. The Lions' defense produced four interceptions, highlighted by freshman Tessa Russell's two picks, including a 35-yard return for a touchdown and a game-sealing interception with 1:26 remaining. Freshmen Sterling Flores and Ava Irwin also recorded takeaways, and Irwin later caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Ava Van Heerde. Kate Meier scored on a two-yard scramble that gave the Lions the lead. JSerra used a rotating double-quarterback system to keep players fresh and has beaten every Southern Section opponent by double digits.
