Titans' Callahan cedes playcalling after 0-3 start
"Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan said Tuesday that he's relinquishing his playcalling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree, while Nick Holz will continue to be the offensive coordinator and maintain the same duties helping build the game plan. Callahan said he chose Hardegree to call plays over Holz because of his experience as interim OC for nine games with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. Holz was last an offensive coordinator at UNLV in 2022."
""They hired me to be the head coach -- and part of that process was being involved in the offense -- but my job is to be the head coach of the football team, and I think that this [change] allows me to do that job a little bit better, pay more attention to some things that might require my attention and be more present."
Brian Callahan relinquished playcalling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree while offensive coordinator Nick Holz will continue helping build the game plan. Callahan selected Hardegree because of his experience as interim offensive coordinator for nine games with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023; Holz was last an offensive coordinator at UNLV in 2022. Callahan is 3-17 as Titans head coach and described the move as allowing him to better perform head-coach responsibilities and be more present. The Titans are 0-3 and have been outscored 94-51 this season. Holz and Tyke Tolbert will continue red-zone planning, Randy Jordan will handle the screen game, and Callahan, Hardegree and Holz will remain in game-plan meetings with quarterback Cam Ward.
